Welcome Message from the Coordinator

Dear Visitor,

On behalf of the Joint Action Extended EHR@EU Data Space for Primary Use (Xt-EHR) consortium, I am pleased to welcome you to our project website.
Xt-EHR represents a significant, collaborative step toward establishing a truly interoperable, secure, and patient-centred European Health Data Space (EHDS)—an essential milestone on the road to building a future European Health Union. Coordinated by the National eHealth Authority (NeHA) of Cyprus, and with the active involvement of all EU Member States and Norway, the project brings together experts from more than 50 Competent Authorities and Affiliated Entities across Europe.

Our mission is to lay the technical, governance, and legal foundations for seamless cross-border electronic health data exchange, based on the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF). We aim to ensure that EHR systems across the EU are not only interoperable and secure but also responsive to the needs of citizens, healthcare providers, and policymakers alike.

Over the course of the 30-month duration, the project will

Develop technical specifications, implementation guides, and certification frameworks for EHR systems
Address critical issues such as telemedicine integration, mobile health (mHealth), and the secure use of wellness applications
Support the creation of sustainable policy, legal, and governance models for digital health services in line with the EHDS Regulation
Promote equity, inclusivity, and accessibility in digital health infrastructure and services
Foster regional adaptability, ensuring underserved regions are adequately supported through capacity-building and stakeholder engagement

This website offers a wide range of resources, including project objectives, public deliverables, technical documentation, and updates on milestones, pilot developments, stakeholder engagements, and emerging innovations
We thank you for your interest and support.

Our collective effort is grounded in the principles of cooperation, transparency, digital inclusion, and long-term sustainability, aligning with the European Commission’s vision for a Europe fit for the digital age.

We warmly invite health professionals, regulators, industry partners, academic institutions, civil society, and citizens to follow our progress and join us in co-creating a more connected, inclusive, and future-ready European health data ecosystem.

Together, we are building the bridges to interoperable, person-centred, and data-secure healthcare across Europe.

Thank you for your continued interest and support.

Warm regards,
Christos N. Schizas
