2nd European EHR Exchange Format Expert Summit

We are thrilled to announce our participation in the “2nd European EHR Exchange Format (EEHRxF) Expert Summit”, held in Brussels in November 2024. Hosted by XpanDH in collaboration with the European Commission, the Xt-EHR Joint Action, and the xShare project, this event brought together key stakeholders to exchange ideas, discuss progress, and strengthen the foundation for the European Health Data Space (EHDS). It also provided an excellent opportunity for our project Work Package (WP) Leaders to meet in person and collaborate on cross-WP efforts.

Advancing EHDS and Healthcare Interoperability

The summit focused on critical topics related to the EHDS, with an emphasis on enhancing healthcare interoperability through the Xt-EHR Joint Action. The opening session, led by European Commission representatives and the coordinator of the Xt-EHR Joint Action, offered an overview of the ongoing multi-level efforts to develop a standardized healthcare interoperability format. This session highlighted the importance of aligning digital health services across Europe.

Collaboration Among WP Leaders

A key highlight of the event was the round table discussion with WP leaders from the Xt-EHR Joint Action. During this session, updates on the progress of each work package were shared, alongside insights into the next steps for their respective areas. This collaborative dialogue fostered stronger connections between teams and provided valuable perspectives on the project’s evolution.

Supporting EHDS Implementation

Another major focus of the summit was on supporting healthcare providers in implementing the EHDS. Key discussions addressed:

  • Ensuring data completeness to support reliable and comprehensive patient care.

  • Standardizing terminology to improve consistency across systems and borders.

  • Developing tailored training programs for healthcare providers to support the digital transformation process.

  • Strategies for creating and improving Patient Summaries (PS) to ensure accurate and complete data for cross-border sharing.

These discussions underscored the importance of preparing healthcare systems and professionals to embrace a connected, interoperable future.

A Unified Vision for Digital Health

The event concluded with a strong collective commitment to advancing a unified digital health ecosystem. By fostering seamless data exchange and prioritizing patient-centered approaches, stakeholders aim to drive better health outcomes and empower both patients and healthcare providers across Europe.

Our project team, including WP leaders, left the summit with fresh insights and strengthened partnerships, ready to contribute further to the EHDS mission. We are proud to be part of this transformative journey and look forward to sharing more updates on our progress soon!
